WHAT ARE GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS?

The definition of a genetically modified crop is a crop that contains genetic material that has been artifically altered in order to produce desired traits. In other words, genetically modified (GM) crops incorporate the best of both worlds by combining traditional agriculture with the latest technology. These enhanced crops have the ability to produce larger yields of food while consuming less natural resources such as arable land and fresh water. (3.1)

WHAT ARE THE "BIG FOUR?"

There is a large variety of different genetically modified crops that are currently grown, sold on the market, or in the process of being developed in the lab. The "Big Four" genetically modified crops are those who are produced the most commonly around the world. These four crops include: corn (maize), cotton, rapeseed (canola), and soybean. (5.1)
